My name is Matt and this is my dog Lucy, better known as Red Paw.
Since our beginning 8 years ago, I’ve always been one to design, customize and tinker with the gear I use in the field. And it has led Red Paw to be a prominent (albeit small) business in the Outdoor Gear Industry.
We started adventuring as a team, backpacking in Florida and eventually in the big mountains of Colorado. The perfect settings to put our gear to the test.

Can’t believe I almost forgot to share this awes

Can’t believe I almost forgot to share this awesome little pack I made for my 3 year old nephew Roark. He fills it with toys mostly. And his “pretend Lucy” loves to peak her head out of the top.

Made this with UltraGrid Blue Wave and brown leather accents. I laser engraved a big leather patch with a lion’s head and his name on the front. And laser engraved his name on the handle.

Family get free custom packs, for life. He’ll turn some heads when he eventually goes to pre-school, that’s for sure.

Long time no see!
I’ve got a backlog of projects to post, and I’ll start with this lovely Revel Red EPX200 Front Range 40L.
This one has a couple customizations: double side compression straps (for ski carry), removable front straps (for snowboard carry), aluminum g hooks and a capture clip loop on the straps.
This has the aluminum frame system and comes in at 28.4 final weight with all removables included.

A classic look of olive drab EPX200, Black Ultragrid + Black Venom Mesh. I think the leather Red Paw patch really completes the look on this one.
38.5 oz with all the extras, including dual frame stays, frame sheet, removable top strap and removable Y strap.

I’ll be leaving for a (long overdue) vacation at the end of the month, and kicking it into overdrive to get orders out.

Black EPX200 for the whole body and various laminate scraps in every color I could find from the scrap bin, including the Red Paw custom print.
This pack and the next are made for my buddies.
The zipper works a little differently than mine. Instead of a full open zip with one zipper pull, it’s closed at the roll top and uses two zipper pulls. That way you can open the zipper while the roll top is rolled down.

It’s nice to work on something a little different every now and then.

Take our standard Front Range 40L and throw a huge 32 inch #5 YKK waterproof zipper down the front.
Using 3.9 Venom UHMWPE TPU, venom mesh and ultragrid, this pack came in at 26.1 oz. Including the framesheet and two carbon frame stays.

I’ll be going on an international trip at the end of the month and plan to use this as my main bag. The idea is simple: throw the bag on the ground (straps down) and fully unzip to use like a duffle bag.

Notice the leather patch with the goofy dog on it?
I made this using my new laser engraver.

After a long hiatus of a couple years, the Ultralight Dog Bowl is back and better than ever. Available in 5 colors and various fabrics, ranging from 0.4 oz to 1 oz finished weight.

After using the previous design for years, I decided to go for a stiffer fabric. This results in a stiffer bowl that holds water or food way more securely. There are zero adhesives or tapes used on these bowls.

The open bowl is 6” x 6” x 2.5” (height), so it’s way easier for your dog to stick their snoot in the bowl.

Packed, it’s a small 2” x 3” rectangle.

Oh, and did I mention I used scraps for all of these? The dog bowl is the perfect small project to use up pieces of fabric that may have been unusable otherwise.

So I made another duffle bag.
It’s made from Ultra 400 (Black) Exterior + UltraGrid (Avocado) liner.
The entire thing is lined with 1/4” thick 4 lb density foam. So it’s rigid, stands up on its own and has a lot of structure.

All that said, the weight is a surprisingly light 23.4 oz. Including the removable shoulder straps.

Won’t lie, this is rough around the edges.. and everywhere else. Just like most of my apparel projects 😂 but if you look at it from a (far) distance it’s not too bad!
